I tried knitting with AmAm Stitch (AmAm Tamago)! ① How to use it and try knitting with various yarns

I recently tried knitting a children's toy called "Amu Amu Stitch" that I received as a Christmas present when I was in elementary school!

"AmuAmu Stitch" is no longer on sale, but now, it seems that Frozen, Sumikko Gurashi, Minion, etc. are on sale under the name "AmuAmu Egg". ( The specifications do not seem to have changed much .)

The width is fixed at 10 stitches, but it's a great tool that allows you to knit flat or circularly just by turning it around. However, I didn't really read the instructions at the time and I wasn't able to make any amigurumi, so ultimately I think I'll try knitting various things until I can knit Stitch.

This time, I tried to see if it can be knitted with fancy yarn, medium weight yarn, and twisted yarn, while also sharing how to use it and some tips that I found useful .

The instructions recommended using medium-fine yarn, but this is a fairly low gauge, so I'll give it a try!

< How to use ( flat knitting mode )>

Here, I used a mixed yarn of mohair and French merino wool ( medium-thin to medium-thick ) .

① Hang the thread about 20cm

② Thread the cylinder alternately from front to back. Once you've finished threading, pass the thread through the groove in the thread hole. Use masking tape to secure the thread in place to prevent the thread from coming loose and causing the stitches to fall off .

③Thread the tensioner

④Then just turn the handle

In flat knitting mode, it will stop when going back and forth, so turn it in the opposite direction.

* In circular knitting mode, you can just keep rotating it around!

⚠️The lid has been removed for the photo, but it is dangerous so please close the included lid before playing.

💡If you turn it too quickly, the stitches will fall off. However, if you turn it too slowly, the tension will be loose at the turning point, the thread will not be caught on the cylinder, the stitches will fall off, and a big hole will be created .

If you knit one row at a constant rate of about 8 beats, it's less likely to fail.

If you braid it too long it will come down, so as it gets longer bring it to the front to prevent it from twisting.

⑤Once you have knitted the desired number of rows, remove it.

Turn the dial to the circular " W " position and twist it around to remove it.

⑥ Once you have removed it, it's time to finish off the thread. The instructions say to thread the end of the thread through a needle and then through the stitches, but because the stitches are small and it's easy to unravel, I used a knitting needle to tie it off! Also, it's easier to finish off if you unravel one row first!

⑦ Pull the end of the first thread, smooth out any loose ends and tie it. ( I just leave it. ) Thread the remaining thread through a needle and hook the end to prevent it from coming undone.

⑧It's finished!

The yarns are all medium-thin to medium thick, straight and wooly, so they are easy to knit with and easy to get used to!

< Try with various yarns >

ITORICOT carries a wide variety of fancy yarns, but some of them are difficult to imagine what they could be knitted into just by looking at the yarn surface, so we tried to see if we could knit them using AmAm Stitch!

①Assorted yarns ( mohair, boucle, fine yarn, etc. )

The yarn is like the one I used in the instructions with some boucle added, but I was able to knit it without any problems!

If the boucle were a little larger it might get caught more easily.

② Kasuri fluffy yarn (available in stores)

The thread is very thick, and it's like nylon with a tam entangled in it. If you spin it slowly, the stitches tend to fall off, so it works better if you spin it a little faster. Because it's very thick, the stitches are moderately dense, so I think it's good for scarves and other things 🧣!

 

③ Kasuri dyed tape yarn (available in store)

To be honest, it was difficult

The stitches tend to fall off easily, and the tension is loose especially at the turn, so I turned it over boldly to get through it. When you hook the thread to the tension, you need to use some ingenuity, such as putting it through the groove on the side or holding it down a little with your hand.

It's a yarn that tends to twist, but the Am Am ​​Stitch is quick and produces a beautiful knitted fabric!

By the way, knitting in the round is easy because you don't have to worry about turning it over!

If you tie the ends of the thread together, you can make a mini drawstring bag.

④ Fancy yarn (available in store)

Because the core thread is quite thin, I often didn't notice that a stitch had fallen out, and only realized it after I'd finished knitting ... I think it would be much easier to knit just by pulling together one strand of lace thread . The decorative parts never got caught!

⑤ Extra thick yarn ( glitter, slub, boucle, flamingo, etc. )

The thickness was good, but I had to be careful because the glitter thread got caught in the tension! I had about 10 thin threads, but I was able to knit without them falling off too much .

Once you get used to it, you can knit about 15cm in about 10 minutes!

The length is free, so I'm currently knitting a scarf ( I'll introduce it later ).
