10/2 BANANA CLOTH

Cotton blend yarn infused with banana stem fibers, dyed using natural materials.
Would you like to try knitting with this unique material?

"BANANA CLOTH" is a yarn made from banana stems that would otherwise be discarded in banana plantations.
Dyed using Herb Fabric, a dyeing technique developed by Toban Senko Co., Ltd., a company with over 80 years of experience in Banshu-ori textile production in Nishiwaki City, Hyogo Prefecture.

This time, mulberry leaves have been selected. Known for their antioxidant and antibacterial properties, mulberry leaves make this yarn perfect for spring and summer projects.

Enjoy the natural texture and rich tones that complement simple wearables and natural accessories.

About BANANA CLOTH

Environmentally Friendly:
Banana stems (approximately 1 billion tons annually) that would otherwise be discarded are repurposed. One stem (about 25 kg) yields 500–750 g of fibers, eliminating the need for additional farmland and contributing to a circular economy.

Human-Centric:
Creates new job opportunities for farmers while supporting sustainable production practices.

Appealing Features of BANANA CLOTH:
A combination of the softness of cotton with the lightness and resilience of banana fibers. It offers excellent breathability and a smooth texture, ideal for spring and summer. The fine fuzz on the yarn surface comes from banana stem fibers.

About Herb Fabric

A fabric harmoniously blending with nature

This hybrid dyeing technique combines plant-based dyes extracted from flowers, leaves, bark, and fruits with eco-friendly synthetic dyes. The yarn undergoes three processing steps to fix the plant-based dyes, ensuring long-lasting, vibrant colors without the fading typically associated with natural dyeing.

This time, mulberry leaves were used to achieve a simple, rich, and natural hue.
The 2025 limited edition comes in seven colors, primarily featuring soft, gentle tones.

The key to knitting with industrial yarns!

The second stitch is sweeter! ...Knit loose and fluffy!

Industrial yarns are waxed to make them easier to knit with machines, and they are designed to be washed at the end of the process, so they may have oil or solvents on them.
By washing at the appropriate temperature, dirt is removed and the fibers become fluffy, so the key is to knit a bit loosely (softly).

Be sure to knit a swatch for testing!

Since wool and similar fibers tend to shrink, it's important to knit a swatch and calculate the shrinkage rate.
For items with longer fibers, gently pressing them while washing will enhance the texture.

How to wash industrial yarns at home

1

Iron

First, the finishing iron and steam are applied to the stitch.

2

Pre-washing

Soak in hot water (no detergent) for about 15 minutes at 40°C or less

3

Washing

(detergent wash, neutral detergent Emaar, etc.) Wash as desired, or if you want to fluff out the yarn, wash it with a leftover cloth or other material and rub it to make it fluffier.

4

Rinsing

Change the hot water and rinse until the water is clean.

5

Finishing touches

Use fabric softener if desired. Use of fabric softener will further improve the texture.

6

Dehydration

If using a washing machine, place in a net for 30 seconds to 1 minute. Light towel drying is also acceptable.

7

Dryness

We recommend drying flat in the shade.

8

Steam iron

Organize shapes and stitch nicely.
