About washing mohair

Hello!

The midsummer mohair festival has begun.

ITORICOT's mohair is an industrial yarn, so it must be washed and shrunk at the end.

Today we'll be talking about washing mohair...!

I am a member of ITORICOT and I want to master the washing of industrial yarns!

I make swatches at home and wash them every day.

From here onwards, a lot of my personal preferences will be included, so I would like you to read it as a reference only.

The important thing when knitting mohair is to knit loosely and softly.

This is 1/13 x 2P knitted with size 8 needles.

This is knitted with No. 4 needles.

It's a matter of preference, and when using a size 8 needle, the fabric feels quite transparent.

If the fabric feels too transparent, we recommend adding a layer of wool.

The base is solid, but the hair is fluffy and feels great.

Now, regarding washing, please soak it for a few minutes first.

When washing with detergent, factories always add leftover fabric in anticipation of mass production.

Mohair will shed when rubbed against other objects, so it's a good idea to wash it with a cloth (a handkerchief would be fine).

Imagine a washing machine and turn the water in a basin or sink in a circular motion with your hands while washing. It makes a splash (clockwise) and a splash (counterclockwise) sound.

How long you wash it for varies from person to person, but I wash mohair cashmere for about 5 minutes.

Then rinse lightly.

I always use fabric softener when using cashmere or mohair. When using fabric softener, I mix in a little bit of conditioner purchased from a drugstore for humans.

Compared to using fabric softener alone, it makes hair fluffy, slippery, moisturized and shiny. When I first added conditioner, I was impressed that human hair and animal hair are the same. If you're interested, give it a try!

After that, I dry it flat in the shade. (Cashmere and other materials that don't shrink easily will become even slimier if you tumble dry them.)

I hope you'll try out various things and research them!

The result is a fluffier texture than you would expect from the rough industrial yarn cones.

After drying, we recommend using a brush to fluff the surface further to make it fluffy like cotton candy.

After this has dried, I brushed it a little. It's fluffy and light and very cute! I hope you'll try this too.
